Army Enlistment and Re-Enlistment Bonus InformationArmy Enlistment and Re-Enlistment Bonus InformationThere are two types of enlistment bonuses currently offered by the Active DutyArmy Enlistment bonuses for non-prior tafelgeschirr recruits and enlistment bonuses for prior service recruits who have been separated from the military for 91 or mora days. Those separated from the military for 90 days or less would use the regular re-enlistment bonus charts. Difference Between Enlistment Bonus and Re-Enlistment Bonus Now, there areRE-ENLISTMENTbonuses that military enlisted personnel is offered atthe end of their previous enlistment time is coming to a close. These re-enlistment bonuses also depend on the service members rank, rate orMOS, and the needs of the military for keeping certain qualifications. If you have a critically needed skill, your re-enlistment bonus could be significant. Enlistment Bonuses Available Non-Prior tafelgeschirr enlistment bonusamounts are based on the M OS (job) and the number of years one is enlisting for. If you are a recruit about the join the military and have highly sought after skills or qualify for challenging jobs within the military (nuclear, special ops, linguist, medical, etc), you could also be eligible for an enlistment bonus or a signing bonus just for joining the military. Some of these one-time special bonuses can be as high as $40,000. Quick Ship Bonuses For Recruits There are also bonuses for those recruits who are ready to go to basic training immediately and can ship within 30days.These bonuses range from $8,000 to $20,000 depending on the urgency of filling a critical needs position in training and how quickly you are able to depart civilian life for boot camp. The U.S. Army has certain recruitment goals that it sometimes struggles to meet. This was the case in 2007 when it introduced the quick ship bonus. The program became effective in July of that year and it is still in effect. More than 3,800 recruits signed up within the first three weeks, and more than 4,100 had enlisted by August 23. Clearly, there must be something attractive about it. The quick ship bonus is available for qualified recruits in select Military Occupational Specialties - military jobs. They must enlist for at least two years and agree to report for basic training within 30 days. Bonus levels have been seasonal or graduated since September 2007 $20,000, $15,000 or $6,000, depending on the selected MOS. Quick Ship 31-60 Days The bonus is $3,000 for recruits who report within 31 to 60 days. All eligible recruits must have high school diplomas and must score at least a 50 on the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery, known as the ASVAB. The MOS must also be listed as eligible for a seasonal bonus in the Army recruiting computer system. This bonus may be combined with other enlistment incentives, such as an enlistment bonus with a quick ship bonus, but the maximum total combined bonus amount that any one person can receive is capped at $40,000. Not all Army jobs offer enlistment bonuses. Payment of Bonuses Recruits who enlist for cash bonuses totaling more than $10,000 will receive their anfangsbuchstabe payment of $10,000 upon successful completion of initial entry training - basic training and job training. The remaining bonus amount will be paid in annual increments of up to $10,000 a year until the bonus is paid in full. Enlistment bonuses totaling less than $10,000 are paid in one lump sum upon successful completion of initial entry training. Prior Service enlistment bonusamounts are based on the following standards1 -MOS (job),2 - Time in Service3 - Re-enlistment zone multiplier4 - Rank of individual5 - Years individual is re-enlisting If a prior service member qualifies for re-enlistment with a certain set of skills the military needs, he/she could qualify for a bonus if they join for a new enlistment contract. An example of this process occurring is explained below The amount of bonus depends on the Multiplier assigned to the MOS, the individuals rank, the members time in service, and the number of years the individual re-enlists for. In some cases, the bonus multiplier also depends on where the individual is stationed. The Bonus Zone is simply the amount of time the person has been in the military Zone A Soldiers who re-enlist with between 17 months and 6 years of service. Zone B Soldiers, who - at the time of re-enlistment - have between 6 years and 10 years of service. Zone C Soldiers who re-enlist with between 10 and 14 years of service. The formula to compute the bonus amount is (BONUS MULTIPLIER) X (MONTHLY BASE PAY) X (NUMBER OF YEARS RE-ENLISTING FOR) Bonuses are paid in Lump Sum, at the time of re-enlistment. Member must have been separated for more than 90 days, but less than 4 years. Soldiers must reenlist for three years (at least) Soldiers with broken service selective reenlistment bonus program will reenter on active duty in grades E-4 t hrough E-6 depending upon qualifications and vacancies - in other words, the needs of the Army. A Career in the Army The National Defense Authorization Bill of 2017 required that the U.S. Army beef up its ranks by 16,000 soldiers by September 30, 2017, so its unlikely that the quick ship bonus will be eliminated anytime soon. The U.S. Army Recruiting Command has earmarked $300 million for various enlistment bonuses. Although basic pay is not known for being generous, the Army offers several perks to compensate, including cost of living allowances, superior health care, tuition assistance, and, of course, a variety of bonuses and special pay for certain skills and duties. Pay grades increase as you move up in rank. You can specialize in any one of numerous fields, including military intelligence, electronics, field artillery or communications. And remember - the quick ship bonus is based on a two-year enlistment, so you dont necessarily have to spend the rest of your life in th e Army to collect it.

Why you should allow yourself to indulge during the holidays

Why you should allow yurself to indulge during the holidaysWhy you should allow yourself to indulge during the holidaysIts the most wonderful time of the year. The chill in the air perpetually smells like snow, carols are playing on repeat through every set of speakers and your home couldnt be mora full of smiling faces of people you love. Oh, and every type of food and drink that comes your way is more decadent than the last. Its a tough life, right?Well, if youre working on certain nutrition, fitness and weight management goals, it can be. Temptation lurks behind every corner of those decked-out gingerbread houses, and each morsel of sugar leaves you jonesing for your next hit. Even your adult beverages get a caloric upgrade when the time comes to bust out the eggnog and Rumchata. How are you supposed to hit your targets and enjoy the holidays to the fullest at the same time? The short answer Youre not.The holidays are not a diet-approved time of the year. The vast majority of peopl e dont derive joy from finding ways to cut the most calories out of their holiday dishes or waking up at 3 a.m. just to cram in an extra 30 minutes on the treadmill in an attempt to even the scales. And none of your relatives want to hear you whimper about this struggle as they try to enjoy the treats and festivities they only get to indulge in once a year themselves. Its exhausting, its stressful, and it can honestly ruin the experience for everyone. So, during this time, which is really only a span of a couple weeks at most, shift your priorities a little bit. Instead of crunching calorie numbers and watching the number on that bathroom scale like its a Santa Claus GPS, let it go. Look up and focus on all of the wonderful people with whom you get to share this magical time of year. Treat the season of indulgence as the celebration of life and love and hope its meant to be. And enjoy every last crumb of those frosted Christmas cookies while you can.We spend so much of our lives sear ching for a sense of balance, but what we often forget is that balance isnt achieved in a single moment in time. You dont have to struggle to tiptoe along a tightrope every second of every day. Instead, consider how the summary of your time looks and what kind of average they create. If, at the end of the year, you stuck to your health-minded goals 80 percent of the time and lived life to the fullest with all of the indulgences this beautiful world can offer in the remaining 20 percent of the time, wed say youre 100 percent on course. With this mindset, youll be able to breathe a little easier throughout the holidays, endure a lot fewer stress-induced stomachaches and appreciate the present moment for all the ways its enhancing your life. And then, once the fireplace is no longer roaring and the sugar plum fairies have faded from your daydreams, you can shift back to the goals you want to work on - and kick some serious ass. This article was originally published on Swirled.

Tips for Successfully Returning to the Workforce

Tips for Successfully Returning to the WorkforceTips for Successfully Returning to the WorkforceThe thought might occur as your youngest child mounts the school bus for kindergarten. Or when they enter middle school, or maybe even high school. At some point, though if you are one of the 11 million U.S. parents who decided to down ramp from their professional career path in order to be a stay-at-home parent youll fruchtweinly likely find yourself wondering if its time to return to the workforce. And with that thought will come a lot of questions about what you should do to prepare for this transition. According to a 2016 Pew Research Center study, the percentage of parents who chose to stay at home with their young children remained constant between 1989 and 2016, at 18%. What had changed was the percentage of fathers who decided to step back from their careers in order to focus upon their families the number of stay-at-home dads rose from 4% to 7%, while the percentage of stay-at-h ome moms fell slightly, from 28% to 27%. Tips for Successfully Returning to the Workforce Whether you are a stay-at-home mom or a stay-at-home dad, if you are contemplating a return to the workforce, there are steps you can take to make your career search successful. Get Back in the Game and Network The longer the length of time you have spent away from the workforce, the more important it is that you reacquaint yourself with your industry, analyze the current job market, and re-forge connections with former colleagues and other professional contacts. One of your best resources at this stage of preparation is the professional social media networking site, LinkedIn. Not only does LinkedIn allow professionals to network, but it is also a great source for gauging the job market and learning about new industry developments. If you already have a LinkedIn account, the professional information you once shared there is no doubt due for a makeover, especially your resume (which may need to be redesigned to downplay your employment gap and better speak to rising job opportunities). If you dont have a LinkedIn account, now is the time to create one. Be koranvers to develop your professional network, reaching out to former colleagues and to professional groups you may once have belonged to in order to let people know that you are returning to the game and are available for interviews. You should also reach out to your former boss and supportive co-workers, assuming you left their organization on good terms. Invite them to meet with you informally for coffee or lunch, explaining that you would welcome their advice as you transition back into the workforce. This will also allow you to catch up the companys news, get updated about changes in the industry, and learn about any current hiring initiatives you might be interested in pursuing. Retrain and Hone Your Job Skills When on-ramping back into the workforce, you will need to be able to demonstrate to employers that, despite your gap in employment, you nonetheless possess the skills that would make you a desirable employee. Ugrade your skills. Before you even begin to update your resume, its good to recognize areas where you may need to improve upon your previous job skills or even develop new ones (especially if you are in a tech-dependent profession or if you are considering a complete career change to a different industry). Review job postings. One way to pinpoint areas for improvement is to review job announcements youre interested in on career search sites such as Indeed.com or Glassdoor.com. Analyze the minimum qualifications and preferred qualifications sought in these ads to landsee how your own knowledge, hard skills, and soft skills stack up. Get training. If there are commonly-requested skills you either dont have or feel have rusted during your time away from the workforce, consider pursuing additional training in these areas. Find Ways to Remedy Your Professional Gap As you are getting back up to speed, another excellent way to re-hone your job skills is to look for freelance or contract work. In todays economy, many companies are open to the idea of contract workers, especially for big projects or to help launch new initiatives. Take on some contract work or part-time gigs. Not only will pursuing part-time work enable you to refresh your professional knowledge, but theres also always the chance that a part-time gig might turn into a full-time, benefited position. List recent training. Being able to describe recent skills training and / or relevant part-time experience on your resume will make a huge difference in defusing the red flag that is raised when hiring managers see an employment gap on your resume. Volunteering counts as work. You can alsouse volunteer work to help fill your professional gap. To do so, keep a detailed list of the projects you have worked on with your schools PTA, school fundraisers, your church, or charitable organization s. Make a special note if you were in a leadership role like a large event or project. This is valuable information that can help to offset professional gaps. Heres how to include volunteer work on your resume. How to Manage the Gap on Your Resume The reverse-chronological format that works for job candidates without significant professional employment gaps often isnt the best approach to take when crafting a resume following an extended absence from the workforce. Neither do you want to describe your most recent experience in cutesy language such as Jones Family CEO. Dont try to masquerade parenting as professional experience. Begin your resume with a summary. Instead of including a chronological listing of your work history, begin your resume with a summary of qualifications that showcases your skills that are most relevant to the position you seek. If you have a degree or recent training in your career field, place this section after the qualifications profile (providing date s for recent training but omitting early college graduation dates). Highlight your most relevant skills. Then, in a functional resume format or better yet a combination resume, highlight activities and skills both from your early career history and from your time away from work in themed sections relevant to the job youre applying for (examples include Customer Service Experience or Event Coordination Experience or Communications Experience). Use length of employment. Finally, at the end of your resume, describe your actual employment history, in reverse-chronological order (if this experience occurred more than ten years ago, however, substitute the dates of employment with the length of employment five years instead of 1990 to 1995). Review an example of a resume for a stay-at-home parent returning to the workplace. Submit a Cover Letter That Shows You Did Your Homework Your titelbild letter should be designed to grab the attention of hiring managers and entice them to give your resume their serious attention. Its also a valuable tool for parents seeking to return to work because it provides the opportunity to showcase your talents. Focus on the employer and the job. As you write your cover letter, keep the focus on the employer dont be tempted to give a long defense about your absence from the work force. Instead, you want to emphasize why youre interested in their company, what skills you have that would make their organization more successful, and your specific accomplishments. Be sure your cover letter is top-notch. Check and then re-check the grammar and spelling. Also, try to find the name of the companys recruiter or HR manager to personalize the letter. This shows that you have taken the initiative to research their organization. Briefly mention the gap. While you shouldnt dwell on your employment gap in your cover letter, its a good strategy to allude to it briefly, since hiring managers will sense, from the format of your resume, that you a re downplaying your dates of employment. Keep your allusion simple and straightforward in the final paragraph of your letter, provide a statement like Having taken a break from full-time employment in order to care for my family, I am now eager to return the sort of stimulating and rewarding workplace your company offers. Expand Address the Gap During Interviews During phone interviews and face-to-face interviews, should the subject come up, acknowledge your employment gap in a similarly matter-of-fact-way. You could say something like You may have noticed a gap on my resume. After the birth of my second child, I made the decision to stay home with my children. Im the type of person who puts 150% into everything I do. At that point, I felt that those efforts were best focused on my family. Now that my children are older, Im at a point where Im once again able to commit 150% to an employer. Id like to discuss some of my past successes and achievements, both from my previous work h istory and my time out of the workforce. ExpandBe confident when making these statements and the interviewer will have confidence in you as well. Remember that, as a stay-at-home parent, youve gained a maturity and demonstrated a level of personal dedication and commitment that will transfer beautifully to your new workplace. How to Make Your Return to Work a Success START NETWORKING Reconnect to former employers and colleagues, and start expanding your professional network on social media sites like LinkedIn.SHARPEN YOUR JOB SKILLS Identify which of your job skills are rusty and seek out training and part-time employment opportunities to sharpen them.BE CONFIDENT AND POSITIVE Any employer worth working for understands that life happens and that sometimes family must come first. As you rewrite your resume, list all of the great hard and soft skills you can offer a company. This should give you the confidence you need to take this exciting next step.

Employee Engagement Starts with Compensation

Employee Engagement Starts with CompensationEmployee Engagement Starts with CompensationMoney, in the form of salary and benefits, could be standing in the way of your efforts to produce a more engaged workforce.Reasonable salaries and thoughtful benefits must be the foundation of any employee engagement program. Without this footing, employees are automatically distracted.Consider that the salary negotiation process is often the first time a potential employee expresses zu sich basic terms for being successful in the new role. A bruising pre-employee salary negation takes a long time to heal. On the other hand, a thoughtful counter-offer could also reveal engagement opportunities, deliver clarity around the job description and set a clear path for career growth. Some companies have gone as far as taking money off the table thus making salary a non-issue by paying employees what they want to be paid and putting in place benefits and rewards that drive engagement. To ensure money issu es doesnt prevent employee engagement, lets unravel the compensation and engagement knot. The Twisted Relationship between Money and EngagementAfter several years of salary and benefits being frozen, cut and rigidly defined, employers are starting to refocus on the role money plays in facilitating engagement. Dan Simovic, chief executive of TAMS (Talent Assessment and Management Services) Group reports that many of his recent projects focus on salary and rewards programs. For these employers salary is not just an attraction and retention tool, its also an engagement tool.During the most recent recession, some companies financially fortified themselves but neglected the implications on engagement. For instance, many organizations that rapidly grew through merger and acquisition activity were focused on delivering bottom-line results, thus delaying investments in culture and systems integrations. Years after the deals were inked, commission and bonus structures, titles and job descript ions and career pathways still have not been aligned.TAMS Group is working with several such companies that finally realized that the administrative burden of managing multiple pay scales, governance systems and naming conventions were only part of the problem. What drove management to take action welches that the conflicting messages sent to employees hamper engagement and are a huge distraction that reduce productivity, said Simovic. This is a major shift. In leaner times engagement was viewed as a cheap way to replace the salary and benefits they were cutting. Somewhere employers got the idea that if people were happy at work, they wouldnt need to be paid more, Sean Williams, owner of Communication AMMO said. This was the era when managers were prompted to smile more, thank their employees and institute other free methods that ostensibly drove engagement by making the workplace a more pleasant environment.Creative and Responsive RewardsBeyond salary, employers and employees alike have come to recognize that total rewards deliver lifestyle benefits that fuel engagement by providing some relief from the pain-points that cause employees to miss work or be distracted. During salary negotiations, recruiter Simovic has noticed an increase in requests for flex time, work-from-home arrangements and other special scheduling considerations.Taking it a step further to the companys entire workforce, responsive benefits empower employees to adapt the program to their preferences. For instance, in one location, employees might select wellness benefits that include discounted fitness center memberships. In another it might take the form of free healthy snacks in the break room.Involving employees in making decisions about their work environment and perks creates a sense of ownership and also ensures the benefits are appreciated, said Jesse Lahey, managing principal of Aspendale Communications. The combined product of such an effort is increased engagement.Beyond benefits, e mployees are demanding more transparency about their individual career paths. During pre-employment negotiations and after some time on the job, employees are asking for clarity about their career trajectory and want to be given goals that ensure continuous learning and growth, reports HR expert Simovic. While not traditionally considered a benefit, clear-cut career path is an incentive that is valued by employees. Also appreciated by employees is a commitment to their education and development. Where coaching was previously used as a step toward firing a problem employee, now employers and employees alike view coaching as a strong signal that the company is appreciative of the employee, is investing in her and wants to see her succeed, said Simovic. Coaching is no longer a response to a crisis, but a proactive investment in a leader.Money Alone Wont Cure Engagement IssuesAbove average pay and benefits arent replacements for other engagement activities, although some companies have t ried to take this shortcut. Employee engagement expert Lahey has seen companies with the cash to do so attempting to throw salaries and bonuses at their engagement problems. While this phenomena might sound attractive on the surface, its likely that the corporate culture is so damaged in these scenarios that no amount of money is enough to make people feel good or work harder.Think of benefits and compensation as a foundation for engagement they are necessary for a strong relationship between employer and employee. Although theyre not a cure-all, organizations would be wise to address compensation and benefits as part of any employee engagement effort. If you want to learn more about achieving authentic and lasting engagement, start by building your leadership credibility. How to Quit Your Job The Right Way If you are reading this, you probably need to find a new job. Or perhaps youve already scored a great new gig and are now plotting your grand exit. But no matter how long youve dreamed of storming into your bosss office and quitting in a blaze of anger, its important to leave your fleck gracefully.Thats why were here to offer five ways to quit your job with no regrets1. Give Much MoreThan Two Weeks NoticeIts common courtesy to give two weeks notice before leaving a job. However, if youre looking to maintain great relationships, consider giving much more notice before your departure, and consider offering to help hire and train your replacement. This will demonstrate that you arent making a mad dash for the door and that you truly care about the well-being of the company. This will also quell the grumbling of coworkers who are normally forced to pick up the slack following a gruppe members departure. When you do give notice, make sure to inform your boss and human resources before telling anyone else yes, even before your work BFF or work spouse so that they dont find out through the rumor mill first.2.
